A notebook is a small object people carry for months, so the details that fail are always the same ones: the spine, the corners and the cover surface.

Sewn sections open flat and stay together. Wire-o opens completely and folds back on itself. Glued blocks are cheapest and fine for shorter use.

The rest is specification — ruled, dotted or blank, elastic closure, ribbon, rounded corners, foil or blind debossing on the cover.
