Inks, laminates and boards conforming to EN 71-3 for migration of certain elements, with declarations issued for the specific production. Retailers and distributors increasingly ask for this paperwork before they take the book — we prepare it as part of the job, not as an afterthought.
Thick greyboard board books with rounded corners, reinforced sewn bindings, scuff-resistant laminates. We will tell you which construction actually holds up at which age group, based on what has come back from the market and what has not.
Children’s books live on flat colour and fine line work — the two things a badly managed press ruins first. Certified proofs, careful ink control and, where the artwork needs it, a fifth colour or Pantone so the illustrator’s palette survives the print run.

Formats: square, portrait, landscape and die-cut shapes; oversized formats for picture books are routine. Interior: 130–250 gsm coated or uncoated, board pages laminated onto 1.5–2 mm greyboard, 4+4 with optional fifth colour or Pantone. Covers: hardcover on 2–3 mm board, padded covers, matt or soft-touch lamination, spot UV, hot foil, glitter and tactile varnishes. Binding: sewn sections, board-book binding, saddle stitch, spiral for activity books. Finishing: rounded corners, die cutting, flaps, wheels and pull tabs, sound modules, cloth and vinyl pages, shrink-wrapping and boxed sets. Compliance: EN 71-3 conforming materials with declarations, CE marking support where required.

300 copies for standard hardcover and softcover picture books. Board books and books with die cutting or flaps need more, usually from 1,000, because the tooling has to pay for itself. We will always tell you where the break-even sits.
Yes — pages laminated onto 1.5–2 mm greyboard with rounded corners, in standard and die-cut shapes. This is a separate binding line from ordinary books, so lead times are a little longer.
Yes. Flaps, shaped pages, wheels, pull tabs and finger holes are all possible. Die cutting requires a cutting die, which is a one-off cost we quote separately — send a sketch and we will price it.
This is one of the things we do most: black plate changes for each language on a common colour run. It keeps illustration quality identical across editions and cuts the cost per language significantly. Send us the language list with the enquiry.
Around 20–25 working days for standard picture books after proof approval, longer for board books and interactive constructions. If you have a fair or a launch date, tell us first and we plan the schedule backwards from it.
