A catalogue exists to be compared against a product, so colour has to hold — across the print run, and against last year's edition.

Extent decides the binding. Saddle stitching for shorter pieces, perfect binding once the spine can carry text.

Catalogues are also reprinted and updated more often than most print jobs, which makes stored files, retained proofs and a repeatable paper spec worth more than they look.
