PHOTO BOOKS, ART BOOKS AND EXHIBITION CATALOGUES

Photo and art book printing

Books where the image is the product. Certified colour proofs, uncoated and matt art papers, open-spine and Swiss bindings that lie flat, and printers who understand that a grey has to stay grey across 200 pages.

Why photographers and galleries print with us

Colour you sign off before the run

We produce certified colour proofs on the actual production paper, so what you approve is what comes off the press. On demanding projects the photographer or art director is welcome at the press check — it is the cheapest insurance in the whole process.

Paper chosen for the images, not the price list

Matt and silk art papers, heavy uncoated stocks, natural and slightly warm whites for black-and-white work. We send physical paper samples before you decide, because the same photograph looks like two different pictures on Munken and on Galaxy Supermat.

Bindings that open flat

Open spine, Swiss binding, sewn sections with a hollow back — the panorama across the gutter stays readable instead of disappearing into the fold. We will tell you honestly which binding suits your page count and paper weight.

Short runs that still look expensive

From 50 copies. Artist editions, exhibition catalogues and portfolio books do not need a print run of thousands to get hot foil on the cover, a slipcase or a tipped-in image.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, and for photo books we recommend it. We produce a certified proof on the production paper. It is the only reliable way to agree on colour — a monitor and a printing press never see a photograph the same way.

Usually a natural or slightly warm uncoated stock such as Munken, or a matt art paper if you need deeper blacks. We can send samples with your own image printed on two or three candidates, so you decide with the photograph in your hand rather than from a description.

50 copies. Below roughly 200 copies we usually print digitally, which changes the paper options slightly and raises the unit price — we will show you both scenarios so the decision is yours.

Open spine, Swiss binding and lay-flat. Each has trade-offs: open spine exposes the sewing, Swiss binding attaches only one side of the cover, lay-flat is the most expensive. We will suggest one once we know your page count and paper.

Yes. Slipcases, hot foil, blind embossing, tipped-in prints, edge colouring and hand-numbered limited editions are all part of normal production — including on short runs.

Print-ready PDF/X, CMYK converted with the profile we provide for the chosen paper, images at 300 dpi, 3 mm bleed. Send RGB files if you prefer — our DTP studio does the conversion and shows you the result before printing.
